The rainforests of Subic which cover almost half of the total population, century old trees make a last proud stand, and hundreds of volunteers of the subic Bay Metropolitan Authority struggle to preserve this virgin state. Members of the Jungle Environmental Survival Training (JEST) center in subic cross the bay on a traditional bamboo raft. Clad in fatigues and well-versed in the art of jungle survival, these guides lead tourists through the woods and give lectures on arcane techniques.

Jest members set up a traditional Aeta fish trap. The waters around Subic Bay are a marine sanctuary; tourists can get a permit to fish in its pristine waters, but hunting is strictly prohibited.

An old Aeta tribesman who had trained thousands of U.S. Marines in jungle survival, escape and evasion, and search and rescue techniques since the 1960's, demonstrates the traditional way to start a fire with bamboo in case you got stuck in the jungle with just your Swiss army knife.

My Favorite Victoria Sponge Cake

preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time; 20 minutes
Makes one 20 cm round layer cake

1 cup self-raising flour
4 eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
60 g. unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1/4 cup warm milk
1/2 cup raspberry jam
Icing sugar, for decoration

Preheat Oven to moderate 180 degrees
Celsius . Brush two, 20 cm round sandwich tins with melted butter or oil. Line bases with paper; grease the paper. Dust the tins lightly with flour, shake off excess.

1. Sift the flour three times onto greaseproof paper.
Using electric beaters, beat eggs in small mixing bowl for 5 minutes or until thick and pale.

2. Add sugar gradually, 1 tbsp. at a time, beating constantly until it has dissolved and the mixture is pale yellow and glossy. Transfer mixture to a large mixing bowl.
Using a metal spoon, fold in butter, milk and flour quickly and lightly.

3. Spread mixture evenly in to the prepared tins. Bake for 20 minutes or until sponges are lightly golden and shrink from sides of tins. Leave the sponges in tins for 5 minutes before turning onto wire rack to cool. Spread jam on both sponge layers, place together. Dust with sifted icing sugar just before serving.

Where Is Britney Spears?

Britney Spears was nowhere to be seen Monday as a court hearing convened in the pop star's child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Federline and his lawyer were on hand as Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon began the hearing, which was scheduled after Gordon earlier this month suspended Spears' right to visit her two young sons.
Gordon allowed reporters into the courtroom for about one minute before he announced that the hearing was being closed.
The commissioner granted a motion Monday from Spears' attorneys to quash a subpoena, but there was no information about what the subpoena involved or to whom it had been issued.
A group of people, possibly witnesses, were later allowed into the courtroom.
Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini, who was in court, told reporters at late morning that the first of an expected eight or nine witnesses had taken the stand. The number of witnesses suggested the hearing could last most of the day.
A throng of photographers and reporters waited outside the downtown courthouse to see if Spears, 26, would come to what one attorney described as "the most significant hearing in the case so far." Law enforcement officers watched over the scene.
But Spears has had trouble making recent legal dates: On Dec. 12, she called in sick for a court-ordered deposition, then arrived nearly two hours late at an attorney's office on its rescheduled date, Jan. 3.
Neither Spears nor Federline were under order to appear Monday. But Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, suggested in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday that it would be important for her to be there.
"You can't phone this one in," he said.
Kaplan said he knew it was only a temporary measure when he obtained emergency court orders two weeks ago granting sole physical and legal custody to Federline.
Among those expected to testify, Kaplan said, were police and emergency medical technicians who were summoned to Spears' home the night of Jan. 3.
A court-appointed monitor called police when Spears refused to hand over Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, to Federline's security guard. She locked herself in a room with one of the boys.
Police officers spent hours at the house and then called fire department paramedics, who placed Spears on a gurney and took her to a hospital with a crowd of paparazzi in pursuit. She left Cedars-Sinai Medical Center a day and half later.
Police have released no information about why Spears was taken to the hospital.
TV's "Dr. Phil" McGraw told celebrity news programs he was with Spears as she was released, saying she was in "dire" need of medical and psychological help. That drew a rebuke from Spears' relatives.
The day after the incident, Kaplan presented papers to the court commissioner, who awarded sole legal and physical custody of the children to Federline and suspended Spears' visitation rights.
Kaplan said if visitation is restored, it would be under more restrictions than those originally imposed by Gordon.

Lindsay Lohan is Sued By Miss Rice Her Car Chase Victim

Lindsay Lohan is facing more legal trouble as the victim of her July car chase has decided to sue her. Tracie Rice was riding in the vehicle that Lohan was pursuing in another SUV. The car Rice was riding in was driven by Michele Peck, the mother of Lohan’s assistant who had resigned hours earlier. Lohan chased the women until Peck was able to make it to the Santa Monica police station where officers confronted them with guns drawn. Lohan had a 0.13 blood alcohol level and was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license. During a police search, cocaine was found in Lohan’s pockets and she was charged with felony possession and transportation of narcotics. Rice is seeking damages for nearly $7,000 in medical expenses that include prescriptions, visits to a therapist and chiropractor. She also alleges she lost her $60,000 a year job as a result of the incident.

Traffic with Trackbacks

There are a lot of good reasons why you should link to other posts that you find helpful or that you get your information from. Linking is a big part of being a blogger, so help others by linking to their posts! You help your readers too, when you link to relevant posts. That way they can read on and learn more. But wait, that’s not all! When you link to another person’s post inside your post, it creates a link back to you, or a trackback (can also be called a pingback).
Up until I read Kevin’s helpful post, I did not really understand what trackbacks were, but now I’m taking full advantage of them! Some others who blogged about trackbacks were Stephen Welton, Dylan Kingsberry, and Leroy Brown. They’re all getting in on the pros of trackbacks!
If you don’t know what a trackback/pingback is, it is basically when you are writing a post, you link to another person’s post in yours. Then on their post page, if they haven’t turned trackbacks off, a link will appear to YOUR post. It helps generate a lot of traffic for you! So next time if you’re reading a post someone wrote about traffic exchanges and you get inspiration, instead of posting your ideas in a comment to their post, elaborate on what they’ve said and add your own thoughts to a post in your own blog, and link to their post! Thus, a trackback will develop, and you’ll have a link back to your blog. Of course, don’t go link crazy, and it’s especially important to link to posts that are relevant. Good luck with your future trackback success!

ChooseYour Own Domain From the Start

If you’re going to start blogging and you’re serious about it, and you plan to blog for longer than a couple of weeks, then DO invest in your own domain and host! In the long run it won’t cost much at all, and then what you earn through your blog will probably pay for your domain and hosting costs. If you start out with a free host like Blogger, it’ll be a huge pain when you have to switch. A lot of people say there is no difference with search engine ranks on whether you have a free hosted blog or not. Well, I think there is a difference. Because almost all of my fellow bloggers that has their own domain get an index easily with google and recieves more oppurtunities and task from the advertisers. Google visits a lot more to a domain and before you start your blog, do some research on what all it takes. Also do research on the hosting you’re going to get, and your domain. I regret not having my own domain from the start, because I didn’t plan ahead or do a lot of research, I just expected to learn everything I needed to know on the way. So I went to Blogger and made my own free blog there.

Gardening Day

I start the day in my garden. As I visit my lovely garden, I found out that there were lots of weeds to clean up, roses,shrubs, palms, and some ferns are just some of my plants that I cleaned and have it rearrange because they were already big enough and they need more space to grow. I placed the fern under a shade of my santol tree because ferns doesn't want to have a full sunlight, they need shades to protect from the hot glaring heat of the sun. Norfolk Pines were also large enough in their container so I transferred them to its new large plastic container and arrange them vertically in my garden. Gardening is really my passion, I also grow flowering plants like petunias, vincas, plumbago, santan, Indian kopiyas, and snap dragons. I also visit other garden sites to check if there were new varieties of plants produced. Almost all gardeners here in my place are my friends, they also consult me when insects are present in their garden, gardeners trust me so much because they know that I know how to deal with insects because I have my own laboratory before and based on my experienced, I can say that I can make a insecticide/fungicide formula if you want hahha.....
